We are offering a full day of programs for paralegals needing to meet some or all of the requirements of Business & Professions Code Section 6450(d). State Law requires that most paralegals have completed 8 hours of continuing legal education every two years.

This year's course offerings include topics in:

This session explores the ethical obligations, and pitfalls, that surround the California Rules of Professional Conduct 1.1 comment 1 and the ABA's Model Rule for Professional Conduct 1.1 with particular attention to comment 8. No part of legal work is unaffected by the duty of competency. And now that is true for the duty of technology competence, too. It requires legal professionals to be competent in every tech tool that we use to serve our clients. Here is a deep dive into how and why that one sentence should be giving you cause for concern.

Effective Use of PowerPoint for Attorneys and Paralegals (1:30-3:30pm)

PowerPoint is present in so many places- from the courtroom to the boardroom. But why it such a powerful tool for making these presentations? It all comes down to using the software effectively. This course will teach attorneys and paralegals about the strategies that make PowerPoint an effective tool for presenting a legal argument in court plus some ideas on techniques that paralegals can use to make their presentations more memorable for any audience, including juries.

eDiscovery Basics on Super Saturday (1:30-3:30pm)

Does the concept of e-discovery in light of the relatively new California and Federal rules leave you a bit uncertain as to how they work, what they are and how to comply with them? You're not alone! Join us on Super Saturday for a soup to nuts overview of e-discovery law, process and procedure along with a live demonstration of an e-discovery review and production tool. Recent statutory and case law rules will be discussed in addition to electronic data handling best practices and proven successful and defensible digital data review and production strategies.
